![]() Chiropractic care is safe and effective for everyone at every stage in their lives. Today, we will be discussing chiropractic care for the elderly; benefits, safety, and common myths! Hello everyone, it's Dr. Bob Salamon here with Lowcountry Chiropractic! Welcome back to the blog. I hope you are continuing to stay healthy and well out there, and I hope you've started to take the advice I discussed in my last blog to heart. Making those healthy additions in your life can make all the difference, keep you healthy, make you feel good, and so much more! Always know that I'm here to answer your questions or to schedule you for a consultation; just give us a call or shoot us an email! Today, I wanted to turn the tables and talk about chiropractic care for a certain age group. I've mentioned before that the myths and misinformation about chiropractic care can get in the way of individuals receiving life-changing treatment that can improve their overall quality of life. I hear these excuses and reasonings why individuals shouldn't get care all the time; I'm too young it's not safe, I'm too old it's not safe, I'm pregnant so it's not safe, I'm not in pain so I don't need chiropractic care. All of these reasons are incorrect. Today, I want to discuss and talk about chiropractic care for the elderly.
I hope all of this helps! Please know we are here for you at any stage of your life and can help you at any stage of your life. If you have any questions or concerns or would like to come in for a consultation give us a call! Stay healthy and safe, readers! Until next time, I'm Dr. Bob and I've got your back covered!

![]() Many people only search out their chiropractors when they're in pain. Today we are going to be talking about why you should give continued care a second thought. Hi everybody! It's Dr. Bob Salamon here with Lowcountry Chiropractic. I hope that wherever you are that you are continuing to stay safe and healthy. Flu and cold season has arrived, and it's time to stay on top of your health as best you can. In many of my recent blogs, I have talked about that more often than not, your health is in your hands. Make sure that you're getting plenty of rest, drinking plenty of water, eating well, staying active, and adding vitamin D3 to your diet. Each of these steps can help you feel better, fight off sickness faster, and prevent you from getting sick. What would also be even more beneficial to staying healthy during this time of year and promote a strong immune system, is to come and see me or to visit your chiropractor consistently. While many people think the only time to go to the chiropractor is when they're in pain, I am here to implore you to think otherwise. I often hear from my patients that they have put off coming to see me because they just weren't in pain and they didn't see a reason to come until they were. Why wait to be in pain or when your body isn't working as it should to come see me? Instead of waiting for the pain, how about coming to see me to avoid any pain or discomfort at all? With this idea in mind, I wanted to talk about some of the top reasons why you should consistently be going to your chiropractor even when you're not in pain!
Many of my patients have spent the last 8 months hunched over their desks employing very bad posture. This also hasn't been great for their hips or lower backs either. This pandemic posture and lack of movement can lead to increased pressure in your neck, shoulders, upper back, hips, and more. It can also cause some pretty serious pain or even lead to a slipped or herniated disc. Coming to see me consistently or visiting your chiropractor on a regular basis can help strengthen your back and fight against your pandemic posture and pandemic lifestyle. I can keep you aligned and make sure that while you have to sit still much longer throughout the day, the messages in your brain are still firing without interruption and without causing you any pain.
If you're still unsure about the benefits of consistent chiropractic care, come and see me. Give us a call or shoot us an email, and we will be more than happy to get you in for an appointment. We will chat about your medical history, give you a thorough examination, and I will get right to work on helping you feel and function at your best at all times. Stay safe out there, everyone! Until next time, I'm Dr. Bob and I've got your back covered! ![]() I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and to talk a little bit about what makes my practice unique. I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I did writing it! Hey, everyone! It's Dr. Bob Salamon here with Lowcountry Chiropractic. I hope you're doing well out there! Today, we're going to switch gears a little bit with what we normally talk about here on the blog. I wanted to focus a little bit on who I am as a person, where I grew up, and what my everyday life is like! Hopefully, this will help you get to know me a little bit better and understand my purpose in providing chiropractic care. I am also going to be talking about my practice and the philosophy that we follow every day! Who Is Doctor Bob I grew up in a relatively small blue-collar town outside of Boston, Massachusetts called Taunton. It is also known as the "Silver City" because Taunton used to be known for its silver factories. My dad worked as a buffer in one of those factories for many years, and my mom worked as a bookkeeper in my uncle’s hardware and glass business. I have one sister who is 2 years older and is one of my best friends. After completing high school I went to Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts, a Jesuit liberal arts school. I majored in economics/accounting and minored in Spanish. I graduated in 1983, obtained my CPA, and worked in public accounting for several years. After that I went to work in the private sector in the computer field and did everything from accounting, budgeting, financial anaIysis to controllership work. I left that industry after 13 years because I was burned out. I had worked for two high profile businesses that were bought out in consecutive hostile takeover bids, and that was the last straw for me. I started to realize that I wanted to add value to people's lives and I felt the role and job I was in wasn't allowing me to do that. Around that same time, I was getting adjusted by a chiropractor and we started talking about the option of me going into the chiropractic field. He encouraged me to do so, and in 1996 I left my business career, moved to Atlanta and attended Life Chiropractic College. I graduated in 2000, and not wanting to go back to the cold weather, decided to move to Charleston because it reminded me of Boston minus the cold! I have been practicing in the same location in North Charleston ever since. I also have a 20 year old daughter who is an awesome young adult! Looking back on my 20 year career, I believe I made the right decision in choosing chiropractic. Over the years I have been able to help a lot of people with various health conditions and ailments through natural methods including not only chiropractic care but counseling in stretching/exercise, postural work and nutrition. I feel now that I have a purpose in life which is to serve and help others in any way I can. I am very involved with my church. I go to the North Charleston campus of Seacoast. I have been very active in the church in many roles including the praise team, and currently volunteer as the chiropractor in the Dream Center Clinic . I enjoy working out a lot and do CrossFit and running 6 to 7 days a week. My Practice It is a pretty interesting practice. We have a lot of fun here and we treat our patients like family. I don't look at people as dollars and cents. I look at them as people with spirits, hearts, souls, and unfortunately subluxations in their spines that need to be corrected. We laugh a lot here at my practice and have a good time with our patients. We care deeply for each one of them. The pandemic has been hard on our office because we're such huggers, and it prevents us from doing so! We do have massage therapy as well. We have two excellent massage therapists who are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Massage is always a great option, and we have the best rates in town, so please check it out! Another thing that differentiates me, I think, is that I don't look at finances as a barrier for people to come in and get the care that they need. I am more than willing to work with people on their financial plans, payment plans, and budgets to make it affordable for anyone to come in and get the care that they need. The last thing that makes me unique is my Spanish skills. I talked about learning Spanish earlier and wanted to talk a little bit more about it. I learned some Spanish in high school, but I really mastered it at Holy Cross. Incredibly I never used that skill until I came to Charleston. My understanding of Spanish and the Latino culture has helped create a vibrant Hispanic patient base that allows me to effectively serve that segment of our community. We also get a lot of attorney referrals for personal injury patients who don't speak any English at all. They feel very warm and welcome here because we have multiple people in our office who are fluent in Spanish! I just wanted to touch on all of this and give you a little insight into who I am and what my office is like! We are always here for you. If you're suffering, in pain, if you want to manage your pain without medication, if you're having issues with digestion or sleeping, there is a lot that chiropractic care can help you with! I hope this was entertaining, enjoyable, and informative. I am Dr. Bob! I have your back covered and hope to see you soon! This week's blog is going to be dedicated to the most important organ in our body; the brain!
Hello there, Doctor Bob here. This week I want to talk a little bit about the most important organ of the human body, the brain! In the chiropractic world, we call it the "Master Controller". Your brain is very similar to the breaker box in your home that sends all the power and electricity to everything in your home. Your brain does something very similar for your whole body. The brain is the most important organ in your body because it creates all the messages for your body to work and move how it should. It regulates all the systems of your body. It is responsible for the trillions of things and activities that go on every second in your body, too. The brain is very intelligent, and some researchers say that we have only scratched the surface of how much power it has and that we are only using a small percentage of our brains. This is kind of scary and kind of interesting. Imagine everything we could do or achieve if we were able to access more of our brainpower? Maybe someday we will be able to. All the systems of your body like the immune, endocrine, the respiratory and digestive are all controlled by your brain. Your brain is constantly prepping and sending messages down your spinal cord through your nerves to all of these important systems and body parts so that they can do what your brain is telling them to do. Then these messages are sent back from these body parts, organs, and glands to the brain, so your brain has all the information it needs to make all the right decisions on how to keep you healthy. So, if your brain isn't working properly, you are not going to be as healthy as you could or should be. I always say that a lot of us are only operating at about 60-70% of our health potential. It's a scary but also inspiring thought, because there are several things you can do to boost those numbers and your brain function. That leads us to two big topics I want to discuss.
The biggest food group you need to stay away from are refined sugars. These are unnatural sugars that are manmade, also called added sugars. The sugars in fruits are okay, it's the super fake stuff you want to avoid. Refined sugars cause an inflammatory response in your body. Inflammation on your organs and digestive system can cause irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Heart and lung inflammation can cause massive issues. Inflammation on your joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons can cause a lot of pain. Inflammation on the brain will result in the brain not being as focused as crystal clear as it could be. It will prevent you from being able to process information as quickly and not allow it to create those messages that the body needs to hear to get its job done. So, over time, as the body breaks down and gets sick it can develop issues with memory and focus. Really look at your diet and try to stick with fruits and vegetables and stay away from the white flour products, the breads, and the pastas. Stay away from processed foods and low-fat foods with high sugar content. Read the labels of your food and be aware of what's all in it! Stay away from foods with lots of sugar in them! You can do this for yourself and continually get better at taking care of your body and brain on a daily basis.
So, hello! Wouldn't you want your brain to be functioning at a higher level? That's why chiropractic care is so great. It's not directly tied to pain and pain elimination, even though chiropractic care is amazing for that. We are talking about some real subtle stuff that over time will pay real dividends if you keep your brain "on fire" (lots of colors) and focused. You will experience better health, clarity, focus, and be able to prevent some of the conditions and diseases that I mentioned earlier, down the road. I really hope that this information has helped you today. This is another reason to go visit a chiropractor and not just for pain or pain elimination and better digestion. But for wanting your brain to function better and have more focus in your life. If you are wanting more information please reach out to the office and I will be more than happy to talk more on the subject with you. Come visit us in the office too! We would love to see you. Until next time everyone, stay well! |
